Veterinary Dental Care
Veterinary Dental Care is a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment. An initial assessment is preformed at the time of your pet’s pre-operative examination. We will then work up an estimate for your pet’s dental procedure at that time.
At the time of your pet’s dental procedure:
-
A full oral exam is performed under general anesthesia to fully assess your pet’s teeth and oral health
Dental X-rays (radiographs) are taken to evaluate your pet’s teeth, the tooth roots and to evaluate for underlying bone loss -
Teeth are cleaned using an Ultrasonic Dental Scaler.
-
While the patient is under anesthesia your veterinarian reviews the Dental X-rays and physically completes an oral examination.
Based on all of these findings a treatment plan is then made, and any needed extractions are preformed
An initial oral exam is given to patients during their routine office visits. It is always limited to how much your pet allows our professional to see and oftentimes mentions of possible extractions are part of the conversation.
At Girard Veterinary Clinic, no extractions are taken until the owner has given their authorization. Under the anesthesia, our team (50+ years of experience and specialized training) will know better how to proceed.
It is very important to include dental appointments in your pet expense column (Pet Insurance helps offset costs) because they are a great preventative measure to assure oral health issues do not lead to internal health
issues for your pets (such as systemic disease).
