Surgical/Dental

Our surgical suite is fully equipped to perform and monitor everything from routine spays/neuters to dentals with or without extractions. 

Our surgeon has been performing surgery for over 20 years and offers a variety of surgeries like: 

Cat and dog spays/neuters to exploratory surgery, foreign bodies, extensive soft tissue surgery, cystotomies, leg and tail amputations and many more.  If there are questions about a specific surgery or anything else we may perform, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In addition to surgery, we offer dental cleanings, full dental x-rays and dental extractions. Dentals are a great preventative measure to assure oral health issues do not lead to internal health issues for your pets.

Veterinary Dental Care

Veterinary Dental Care is a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment. An initial assessment is preformed at the time of your pet’s pre-operative examination. We will then work up an estimate for your pet’s dental procedure at that time. 

At the time of your pet’s dental procedure:

• A full oral exam is performed under general anesthesia to fully assess your pet’s teeth and oral health   
  Dental X-rays (radiographs) are taken to evaluate your pet’s teeth, the tooth roots and to evaluate for underlying bone loss

• Teeth are cleaned using an Ultrasonic Dental Scaler.

• While the patient is under anesthesia your veterinarian reviews the Dental X-rays and physically completes an oral examination. 
   

Based on all of these findings a treatment plan is then made, and any needed extractions are preformed  

An initial oral exam is given to patients during their routine office visits.  It is always limited to how much your pet allows our professional to see and oftentimes mentions of possible extractions are part of the conversation. 
At Girard Veterinary Clinic, no extractions are taken until the owner has given their authorization.  Under the anesthesia, our team (50+ years of experience and specialized training) will know better how to proceed. 

It is very important to include dental appointments in your pet expense column (Pet Insurance helps offset costs) because they are a great preventative measure to assure oral health issues do not lead to internal health issues for your pets (such as systemic disease).

Laboratory

With both in-house lab services and a full service reference laboratory, diagnostic testing is available whenever necessary. 

Radiology

Pet x-rays help our doctors diagnose internal problems within your pet's organs, bones and joints. Not only are our vets and technicians well trained, we also work with a board-certified radiologist for a second opinion so nothing goes unnoticed.

Laser Therapy

Therapeutic lasers use light waves to cause the alteration of cellular and tissue physiology. Light absorbed by cellular components stimulates electrons and activates cells to promote growth, proliferation, migration, and repair.

o   Laser therapy is used for many veterinary medical conditions, including:

• Chronic arthritis

• Surgical incisions

• Tendon and ligament injuries

• Traumatic injuries

• Laser therapy is particularly useful for pets with limited medical treatment options, such as:

  • Pets with liver disease who cannot take medications

  • Cats, for whom only a few pain-control medications are approved

  • Exotic pets for whom medication administration is difficult or impossible

  • Older pets with diminished organ function

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds are an advanced imaging technique that allows us to closely examine organ and tissue that otherwise cannot be seen by traditional radiology.
